Cloud security vendor Skyhighestimated nearly nine out of 10 enterprises -- 87.3 percent -- are now using Office 365. According to research released in connection with the public unveiling of Windows 10, thesame report shows93.2 percent of employees are still using on-premises versions of the Microsoft Office apps.
While Office 365 has "tremendous traction in enterprises, it is in the early innings and there is a massive opportunity ahead to transition all employees to Office 365," Skyhigh noted in a statement. Moving enterprise content to Office 365 is difficult, and it represents a huge business opportunity for companies in the business of migrationor securing business content. The research found just 6.8 percent of users have migrated to Office 365 with enterprises starting by department or line-of-business followed by the rest of the company as needs arise. Hybrid Rules In the medium term, a large number of enterprises are going to be Office 365 Management living and working with on-premises and online applications in hybrid environments -- and rumors that the next edition of SharePoint will be the last on-premises version of SharePoint are greatly exaggerated. Skyhigh's research coincides with the release of Windows 10 today. "Windows 10 will offer deeper integration with OneDrive and the new Universal Office apps for Windows 10 (the new version of Office that supports desktop, tablet, and mobile devices) will require an Office 365 subscription. We expect that this requirement Office 365 Management will lead many companies to accelerate their Office 365 migrations," the research concludes. The research was based on an analysis of Skyhigh's 21 million users, the vast majority of whom spoke favorably about Office 365, particularly in relation to its advantages for mobile workforces. It showed that large organizations collaborate with, on average, 72 business partners through Office 365 across a range of verticals that include high-tech, manufacturing, energy, financial services and business services. Data in Office 365 It also showed that a staggering 1.37 terabytes of data are uploaded into Office 365 every month by average organizations, or the equivalent of one billion Word documents. Of all that data, 17.4 percent contains sensitive information broken down as follows: Personally Identifiable Information (PII) includes Social Security Numbers, phone numbers and home addresses, as well as financially sensitive data, business plans and even source code. Microsoft has invested heavily in Office 365 security over the past two years. But even the best intentioned security systems are no match for the carelessness of some users. The research found that enterprises have an average of 143 files that with "password" in the file name. The result that many enterprises are also adding an additional layer of security to their Office 365 deployments. In a separate cloud security report from Skyhigh also released recently, it noted the average enterprise now uses 1,083 cloud services (up 46. 7 percent from last year) with only 7 percent satisfying the security requirements of enterprises and 15.4 percent of cloud services offering multi-factor authentication. The same report also shows the average organization uses 171 collaboration cloud services, including Office 365, Gmail and Evernote and that collaboration services are followed in order of popularity by file sharing with 57 services, content sharing with 43 services and social media with 32 services. School bells are ringing across the Wiregrass to usher students into a new school year, and class is also in session at Fort Rucker's physical fitness centers.
The Directorate of Family, and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host its Back to School, Back in Shape Challenge Aug. 24-Sept. 25. Anne Sullivan, fitness program coordinator, said the program provides a perfect opportunity to try new approaches to fitness or simply ease back into a routine. "Try new classes," she said. "Nothing crushes motivation like boredom. Get into a routine, gain accountability via a workout buddy and maybe even start keeping a workout log. There are so many different fitness apps and gadgets out there - find one that works for you." But Sullivan urges anyone who has not exercised in a while to ease into physical activity. "If you've been away from physical activity for a while, it's wise to consult your doctor before starting something new," she said. "Be OK with being a beginner. Don't force yourself into a fitness routine that you don't enjoy. My advice is to find something that makes you feel amazing and keep doing it." The challenge provides prizes for people who attend the greatest number of group fitness classes during the time period. Those who attend 20 or more classes in that timeframe will receive prizes. They will also be entered to Female Fitness win 25 percent off the price of registration for Fort Rucker's Fall Boot Camp, which begins Sept. 28, or win a one-month unlimited group fitness class pass. "Conventional wisdom says it takes 21 days to form a habit, and we are looking to help you get there," Sullivan said. "A healthy, active lifestyle is grounded in a routine that includes time set aside for exercise. You may also discover a new class or two, meet some likeminded people - things that help keep your exercise routine fresh and fun going forward." People can stop by the front desk at the Fortenberry-Colton Physical Fitness Center to sign up and create their official competition log. A wide variety of classes are available to patrons to accommodate as many fitness levels and needs as possible, according to Sullivan. "We have a new Aqua Blast class held Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. at the Fort Rucker PFC pool," she said. "This is not your grandmother's water aerobics. It's a challenging, intense pool class with a really dynamic instructor. For anyone looking to mix up their routine and also give their joints a break, this is for you. And you do not need to be a strong swimmer to get maximum benefits from the class. The schedule does shift slightly from month to month, but it is available online and on Facebook as well as at the gyms." Participation in the competition is free. Group fitness classes cost $3.50 for a single class, $15 for two weeks of unlimited classes and $30 for one month of unlimited classes. Sullivan said it is important to pace oneself and be patient with fitness progress. "Listen to your body, increase volume and intensity gradually, and find classes that can meet you where you are," she said. "Spinning Female Fitness is a great cardio option - you can adjust the level of resistance on your bike to accommodate your fitness level throughout the workout. Yoga provides a great combination of cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and mindful breathing - very beneficial for all levels of fitness. More We don't always have an electrical outlet readily available, most certainlyon atriptothe great outdoors. And God forbid that we don't have access to our precious devices! So what options to we have? Well, we can charge up several portable chargers and hope it's enough. Or you can buy one chargerand efficiently let the sun do the work for you.
If the latter soundsgreat but you're suspicious of the effectivenessof such solar charger a device, let me introduce the Coocheer 15W Solar Panel Charger. Imustmention that I've tried solar panel chargers before, but to no avail. They either didn't charge fast enough for the worth or just didn't work period. But when I spottedCoocheer's seemingly robust implementation, I really wanted to know if asolar panel charger could be done well. Design So what makes this solar panel chargerso special? For starters, you have not one, not two, but three considerably-sized solar panels. This translates to 15W of power output (given you have full sunlight, of course). Therefore, Coocher was able to put intwoUSB charging ports, one capable of 2.1A and the other 2.5A. In order to make the system effective, the solar panels are fairly large (slightly smaller than printer paper). At full extension, the charger is about 2.5ft wide. But you won't be carryingit around that way. Fortunately, the charger is foldablefor portability. This system is a fantastic way to circumvent the fact that you need large panels in order to make solar charging worthwhile. Yes, fully laid out, the large footprint can be cumbersome to have around. But if you're stationary (i.e. camping) or have it strapped to your backpack while you're hiking, it should work just fine. There are cutouts at the extreme corner of the panelsthat can serve as attachment points. Also, because there is folding point between each panel, you have the flexibility to change the size. For instance, if you only need to charge one device, you can shorten the length to one or two panels by folding inextra panels. The charger is made out of woven fabric material, like that is used for backpack straps. Therefore, the entire assembly is sturdy. The solar panels are protected by a plastic filmand adhered to the surrounded fabric. I feel like I can toss this thing around and it will be just fine. The base of the charger solar charger houses the two charging ports within a pocket. The plastic housing of the charging ports do have somewhat of a cheap feel, but they work. I wish Coocheer labeled which one of the USB ports is the one that outputs more power, for faster charging if your device supports it. The pocket is held shutby Velcro, so smaller devices can be thrown in there while they charge. A Velcro liningis also used to keep the charger from unravelingwhen you foldit completely up. Function I gave the charger a couple test runs, on a overcast day and on a sunny day. The results met my expectations. On the cloudy day, I wouldn't recommend plugging in two devices. For me, I just got enough juice to keep my phone's battery percentage at bay. But this is certainly better than it draining! On the sunny day, it was a much better story. At 50%, my Galaxy S6 estimated about 1 hour to charge the battery full. This is pretty darn close to Fast Charging speed! Pretty impressive for a solar panel charger. Final Thoughts I'm very pleased with how the Coocheer Solar Panel Charger worked out. Yes, it's larger than typical battery packs. But the size is a limitation of solar panel technology, not a limitation of the manufacturer. Having extendability thatmaximizes solareffectiveness, with the ability to compactdown to roughly the size of a sheet of paper, is a fantastic way to make solar panel charger practical. Also, the charging speed at full sunlight blew me away, along with the ability to charge two devices at the same time. I won't completely get rid of my battery packs, as the solar panel effectiveness is obviouslylargelydependent on sunlight. But now they can serve as backup if/when I need them. One thing's for sure, I don't need to worry about running out of battery. Coocheer Solar Panel Charger product page Story highlightsDJI wants to make aerial photography drones mainstreamSays drones nothing to be scared of; allow creative photographyRegulation over use of drones confusing, especially in U.S.What comes in a white cardboard box, weighs little more than a kilogram and can be purchased in a few clicks from Amazon?
Few people would guess a drone -- a term that conjures up stealth strikes and spy movies. But that's the point for DJI, a Chinese company that dominates the young but growing market for personal and commercial drones. It wants to make the airborne gadgets, if not soft and cuddly, at least unremarkable. "It's made of white plastic. It's not scary. It's pretty accessible to most people," says Eric Cheng, DJI's director of aerial imaging. The company's ready-to-fly Phantom photography drone makes it a "global leader," in small unmanned aerial systems according to Frost & Sullivan, a research group. DJI believes drones like the Phantom will soon become another "camera in your bag," allowing photography enthusiasts to embrace "dronies" with same fervor as "selfies." "It's sort of an extension of the selfie stick really," says Cheng. "It's an unlocking of the third dimension for camera positioning." Their latest four-propeller drone is equipped with a high-definition camera and a wi-fi transmitter lets pilots watch the video streamed live to their smartphone that attaches to the controller. Mounted on a three-axis gimbal or stabilizer, the camera can be rotated while the drone hovers in place enabling it to capture stunning aerial images such as close-ups of a volcano. READ: Hobbyists pilot small drones for dogfights, photography Transition The company was founded in 2006 by engineer and remote control helicopter enthusiast Frank Wang, who started out making kits for hobbyists before launching the Phantom range in 2013. It has expanded quickly, growing from 20 employees in 2009 to 2,500, who are mainly based at company headquarters in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. Operating at the cutting edge of a new technology is rare for Chinese companies, which are typically regarded as manufacturers of ideas and designs hatched in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. It's the kind of company that China needs more of if it wants to make the transition from world's factory floor to a home for innovative companies with global reach. Cheng says Shenzhen marries the best of China's manufacturing prowess with a rich pool of design and engineering talent. "You don't have to wait eight days for a prototype to come back in." READ: A new photography drone for drone newbies Confusing regulation? Its early lead puts it at the heart of the debate over regulation of the drone industry, which has been dogged by red tape, privacy concerns and a poor reputation. Many fear drones landing in backyards and peering in windows. Cheng says the policy environment is confusing for most users. In the U.S., amateur drone users can't go above 400 feet (120 meters), and the devices can only be used by hobbyists. The Federal dji technology Aviation Administration is working on clearing commercial unmanned aerial vehicles and details are expected by the end of the year. Other jurisdictions such as Australia and New Zealand allow wider use, says Cheng, and the company's drones are used in fields ranging from mining and agriculture, to nature conservancy and real estate. As drones catch on in the mainstream, the company has built in features to help first-time pilots. The device is programmed to avoid airports and automatically returns to a home point if it flies out of range. "Most people are successful with the product and consider it easy to fly," says Cheng. "That said, it's still a flying machine so it dji technology has the potential to hit things and crash." Just don't call it a drone In an hour-long interview, Cheng only uses the word "drone" when pressed and says the industry is struggling with the terminology. But with "I want a drone" now reportedly one of the top recurring search terms based on Google autofill data and the word widespread in the media, the company says it's now focused on changing what drone means to people and regulators. "It's really heartening -- once people use them, it's not a struggle to get them to think of the drone as a generic thing rather than (something) scary." |
